LAUREN LAQUIDARI
The passion from a gymnast to a future coach
Twist
Having a connection with gymnastics has strengthened over the years with realizing it is more than just a sport. With being at the gym up to 15 hours a week you build a strong relationship to the people around you. You put all of your time and effort into one sport which makes it so hard to let go in the end. You learn to be there for your teammates and help push someone to their fullest potential. Gymnastics is a very difficult sport where there are times you have to compete against your teammates which can be discouraging to a team, but even when your mind wants to win you have to listen to your heart and be there to support your teammates.
After a bad practice growing up it used to take me down, but over the years I have finally realized that when I listen to my heart I see that every practice is putting me in the right direction. Showing this to other athletes is something very valuable instead of jumping to conclusions when you think all about the negatives. When a future career opportunity comes up as me becoming a coach I want to be able to inspire others to follow their heart even during the hardest times.
